Like so many schools in late January, Florida State was hoping it could pull a few more big moves leading up to National Signing Day.

Among FSU's high-priority targets was Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage defensive end Brian Burns. FSU brought Burns in for an official visit last weekend, and it appears it was more than enough for the 6-foot-5 and 217-pound star who announced he was signing with the Seminoles on Wednesday.

Burns, who selected FSU over Florida and Georgia, burst onto the South Florida scene as a junior and emerged to help Heritage capture its second consecutive Class 5A state title.

Burns led the Patriots to a 9-2 record, a district title and an appearance in the Class 5A regional semifinal. He finished the season with 60 tackles, 11.5 sacks and 11 hurries.

The U.S. Army All-American Game participant was also named the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Class 5A-4A-3A-2A Defensive Player of the Year for Broward County. The Sun Sentinel also rated Burns as the No. 19 prospect between Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The Miami Herald listed Burns as the No. 2 prospect in Broward County and also named him a first-team all-Broward County selection.
