Florida State star tailback Dalvin Cook will be out for the next two months after he had shoulder surgery, Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said after practice Wednesday.

Cook was missing from practice, which was the final open session before FSU's spring game on Saturday at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

"Dalvin had surgery on his shoulder and we cleaned up a little stuff in the back of his shoulder," Fisher said. "He'll be ready in a couple months, and he'll be ready to go in June, July and train and do everything.

"There are some things in there ... we had them checked and it was a question of whether to do it or not and we had them do it and it was a good thing they did. But nothing drastic; he'll be immobilized for about two months."

A Florida State spokesman told reporters Cook's injury was to the back of his labrum in his right shoulder. In the spring of 2014, he suffered a front labrum injury in the same shoulder. The spokesman also said Cook sustained a left shoulder injury when he was in high school at Miami Central.

* Insider Report: QBs showing talent but lacking leadership, consistency

Cook's latest shoulder injury occurred during a pass protection drill.

Fisher said Cook was "pinned over," and there was something in the back of his shoulder that needed cleaning.

It's the latest injury for Cook, who suffered through a number health-related hiccups during the 2015 season.

Fisher and his staff have been careful with the junior's contact this spring. He's among four players who received limited reps during the first scrimmage and was given limited reps during the team's second scrimmage last Saturday.

Cook was replaced by sophomore Jacques Patrick when the first team practiced, Fisher said.
