After competing in track and field, five-star DE Jarez Parks will turn his full focus to football.

Next up on our 2016 spring tour, we head to South Florida for visits to practices at Sebastian River and Miami Central. Both schools have prospects that are high on the wish list for Florida State.

Parks talks FSU, recruiting and spring football

Although Sebastian River five-star defensive end Jarez Parks is a major target for Florida State and many other college football programs, he hasn't been spending all of his time focused on spring football. That's because he has a chance to make a big splash this weekend in another sport.

"I'll be at the state championship at IMG for the discus and shot put," he said. "I've still been at a lot of the [football] practices and got some good work out of it."

Parks has only been participating in track for a few months, but his athletic ability and strength have paved the way to quick success.

"I didn't think I would like track as much as I did," he said.

According to Parks, he currently measures in at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, which is around the weight he wants to be at when the season starts. He's used mostly as an outside linebacker at Sebastian River, but he also sees time at defensive end.

Parks said he doesn't have a preference of position and is willing to play either in college.

On the recruiting front, Parks says Florida State is very high on his list, along with Alabama and Florida. The five-star standout doesn't claim a leader at this time, but he has taken a strong liking to FSU linebackers coach Bill Miller, who has been his main recruiter.

"He's really cool," Parks said. "Whenever he is here, you can see how comfortable he is here and that makes me feel comfortable when Coach Miller is like that. We talk about a lot of things and sometimes it's about other sports I play."
